Stratford High School bass club members Brandon Jones and James Clutts placed second in the South Carolina High School Fishing State Championship on Lake Murray.

And while they didn’t reel in the big trophies at the state level on April 29, the duo has an opportunity to land the biggest trophy at the national level.

By finishing inside the top six out of 60 teams, Jones and Clutts advanced to the 2018 national championship from June 26-30 on Lake Pickwick in Alabama.

North Augusta High School’s Chad Champy and Kyler McKie counted five bass totaling 15 pounds, 15 ounces. Jones and Clutts had the five-bass limit and came in at 12 pounds, 13 ounces.

Another local duo, Brenden Farley and Brayton Killiri of Summerville High School, placed sixth with three bass totaling 11 pounds, five ounces.

Berkeley High School anglers Johnny Koester and Reid Shaw placed 12th.
