All-state selections and all-star designations for high school softball teams have come down the pike and the squads from Hanahan and Cane Bay are well represented.

Cane Bay’s Mallena Wright and Smiley Kinloch are Class 5A all-state picks along with Hanahan’s Ashlyn Cribb, Golden Thrower and Brooke Vorhis in Class 3A

Wright, a senior third baseman, batted .465 with 20 extra-base hits, 35 RBIs and 32 stolen bases for the Lady Cobras. Kinloch, a senior shortstop, batted .411 with seven home runs and 36 RBIs.

Cribb, a senior catcher, posted a .398 batting average with 15 extra-base hits, 32 runs scored, 35 RBI and 11 stolen bases.

Thrower, a junior pitcher, batted .467 with 33 RBIs and was one of the Lowcountry’s top hurlers. She posted a 19-4 mark with a 1.75 ERA.

Vorhis, a junior first baseman, hit .368 with 22 runs scored and 36 RBIs.

As for the Coaches Association of Women’s Sports’ North-South all-star picks, Cribb will suit up for the Class 4A-3A South all-stars while Wright will be on the Class 5A-2A-1A South squad.

The all-star games for the state’s best seniors are set for June 19-20 at USC Aiken. The 5A-2A-1A South will take on the 5A-2A-1A North before squaring off against either Class 4A-3A South or Class 4A-3A North.

The squad with a 2-0 mark wins the all-star week.

Also in the Berkeley County School District, Berkeley sophomore shortstop Jersey Silver was a Class 5A all-state pick while Timberland’s Abby Prince, an eighth grader, sophomore Gracie Prince and junior Brooke Moody were Class 2A all-state picks.

Silver batted .500 with 19 RBIs.

The younger Prince led Timberland inside the circle and combined with older sister Gracie to form a strong battery. Abby Prince batted .647 and Gracie Prince posted a .524 batting average. Moody, the Lady Wolves centerfielder, batted .618.

In the all-star games, Berkeley outfielder Brooklynn Stueness and catcher Haylee Wilkerson will suit up for the Class 5A-2A-1A South team.

Stueness batted .493 with 25 RBIs while Wilkerson finished with a .450 batting average and 29 RBIs.
