Cane Bay’s girls tennis team.

Cane Bay and Goose Creek high schools tangled on the courts Sept. 17 and the Cobras swept a pair of Region 7-AAAAA matchups.

Cane Bay won 6-0 in girls tennis and 3-1 in volleyball.

In the tennis match, Shadia Gonzalez, Catie Shaffer, Kristina Rydbom, Greta Oswald and Jules Kubitz won singles matches for the Cobras.

Cane Bay’s Eliana Boersma and Ellie Hamill won at No. 2 doubles.

Both Cane Bay squads lost encounters with James Island on Thursday, Sept. 19. The Cobras host Stratford on Sept. 24 and travel to Wando on Sept. 26 in both sports.

Owens leads Stratford on links

Faith Owens carded a 43 to lift the Stratford girls golf team to a 25-shot victory over Cane Bay on Sept. 19.

Stratford finished at 187. The Knights also counted Chayse Cool’s 45, Spencer Condon’s 49 and Rori Mae Condon’s 50.

Nthanze Njonjo shot 45 and Karaline Stenzel 49 for Cane Bay, which came in at 212.

Stratford wins region volleyball match

Kailynn Driggers made 40 digs and Maddie Mitchum 13 kills to power Stratford High School to a thrilling five-set victory over James Island on Tuesday, Sept. 17.

The Knights won 12-25, 26-24, 28-26, 17-25, 15-12. Mikayla Stout had 4.5 blocks.

Hanahan wins region volleyball match

Hanahan’s volleyball team defeated Academic Magnet 3-1 in a region volleyball match on Thursday, Sept. 19.

The Hawks won 25-22, 25-18, 16-25, 25-22.

They travel to Georgetown Sept. 24 for a region match before traveling to Ashley Ridge Sept. 25 to meet the Swamp Foxes and Colleton County.

Knights sweep in cross country

The Stratford High School cross country teams swept a meet at Santee Canal Park on Sept. 18.

The boys finished with 17 points, ahead of Timberland (116), Berkeley (119) and four others. Owen Smith led Stratford’s boys while Ryland Kowalski and Kyle Strickland were the second and third across the line for the Knights.

The girls had 24 points, finishing ahead of Orange Grove (53), Berkeley (108) and four others. Sydney Palmer was the first Lady Knights runner across the line, followed by Kaelan Pierce and Alyssa Davis.
