Jaedon Alston

Stratford running back Jaedon Alston scored twice and rushed for 114 yards in the Knights’ 41-20 win over Stall on Aug. 30.

Jaedon Alston, Damarius Anderson and Javion Taylor each scored a pair of touchdowns as Stratford High School broke into the win column on Aug. 30.

The Knights scored 20 unanswered points to pull away in the second half for a 41-20 victory over visiting Stall High School.

“We scored 21 points on them in the first quarter and got complacent, not only the players but also the coaches,” SHS coach Dennie McDaniel said. “At halftime, we challenged our players and coaches to answer the bell. We scored three touchdowns in the second half and had it inside the 20 on two more occasions.”

The Knights (1-1), who had lost at Timberland 21-14 on Aug. 23, had 364 total yards on 65 plays against the Warriors (0-2).

Alston rushed for 114 yards on nine carries and scored on runs of 6 and 54 yards. Taylor rushed for 54 yards and scored on runs of 16 and 24 yards.

Anderson scored on runs of 7 and 8 yards and hauled in three passes for 66 yards. Matthew Cudd chipped in 53 yards on four catches.

Knights quarterback Josh Davis was 11 of 26 for 172 yards and an interception.

Stratford got off to a quick start, building a 21-6 lead after a quarter.

Stall didn’t go away, though, getting a safety and pair of long touchdown passes to close within 21-20 at the break.

“I’m going to give credit to the players from Stall,” McDaniel said. “They played really hard.”

Anderson’s 8-yard run was the lone score in the third quarter. Alston and Taylor put it away in the final period, breaking free for scoring runs of 54 and 24 yards.

The Knights were scheduled to host Ashley Ridge on Sept. 6 but Hurricane Dorian forced school district closures all over the Lowcountry.

McDaniel and the Knights are at Summerville on Sept. 13 and have a bye week on Sept. 20.

If the Ashley Ridge game can’t be made up, Stratford could fill the Sept. 20 date with another team off that week.
