Charleston Post 166 pounded out 16 hits and designated hitter Jake Chapman was 4 for 5 with three RBIs in a 12-6 victory at Orangeburg Post 4 on June 24.
“We had a big night,” Post 166 coach David Horton said. “We squared some balls up. I was proud of the effort.”
Post 166 improved to 8-2 in League 1 play and all but mathematically locked up its second straight league title and sixth since 2011.
Post 166 hosts Hampton Tuesday night at Cane Bay High School. Hampton is 5-4 in League 1 and could tie Post 166 in the win column this week with three wins and two Post 166 losses but Post 166 is up 11 runs on Hampton in run differential.
In his first start, pitcher Dalton Godin scattered nine hits and allowed six runs in earning the win on the mound. He walked two and struck out two.
At the plate for Post 166, Travis Lott had three hits, including two doubles, and two RBIs with two runs scored. Leadoff hitter Will McGuire, Noah Panezich, Josh Davis and Alex Dial had two hits each. McGuire scored three runs and Davis knocked in a pair.
