Jonas DaSilva epitomizes what a soccer coach wants in a defender.
Stratford’s Jessie Stament bragged on one of his senior leaders when learning DaSilva was named an all-star.
“He is strong, physical and confident in his abilities,” Stament said. “Jonas is a playmaker on our defense and enjoys tackling and knocking opponents off the ball. He was our vocal captain on the team that knew how to make big plays to hype our team up when we needed a jolt of energy.”
DaSilva will conclude his prep career as an all-star June 22 in the North-South Soccer Classic at T.L. Hanna High School in Anderson. He will represent the Knights on the South squad.
The North leads overall 15-11-4 but the South has captured six of the past nine meetings.
Two of the other matchups were draws.
The South tallied a 5-2 victory last year in Anderson.
DaSilva, a team captain and all-region selection, did his part to help the Knights make the Class 5A playoffs this spring.
As the left back, he played a large role in the Knights’ seven shutouts.
“Jonas is excellent with the ball at his feet,” Stament said. “He is one of the best players I have had the pleasure of coaching.”
