A group of Dixie Youth Baseball all-stars begin their quest for a state title on Saturday in Bluffton.

The Goose Creek “O’ Zone squad (12U) captured the District 7 title with a 3-0 record, beating Mt. Pleasant 8-5 in the championship game on June 27 at Felkel Field.

They open up at 11:30 a.m., against District 3 champion Edgefield County on Saturday and face either District 1 champion Greer or District 4 champion Midland on Sunday.

The loser’s bracket game is at 1 p.m., and the winners play at 3:30 p.m.

The team is coached by Jason Smith. The tournament winds down July 18.

Other squads in the double-elimination bracket are Sumter, Gregg Park, Bluffton National, Union, Bluffton American, Hartsville Northern, North Myrtle Beach and Greenwood.

The state winner moves on to the “O”Zone World Series in Ruston, La., from Aug. 2-8.

The state’s Dixie Pre-Majors (16U) and Dixie Majors (18U) will decide their state champion July 13-16 at North Charleston.

States that play Dixie Baseball are Alabama, Arkansas, South Carolina, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia.
