Charleston Post 166 was in need of a special performance from the bump and righty Josh Davis delivered.
Davis tossed a four-hit shutout – all singles – as Post 166 blanked Horry Post 111, 6-0, at Conway High School on Tuesday night to even the second-round series at one game apiece.
Horry defeated Charleston 7-1 on Monday in the series opener.
“Josh was outstanding,” Post 166 coach David Horton said. “He had all of his pitches working. We played great defense behind him.”
Davis threw 84 pitches and struck out five batters. He walked two.
Game 3 is at Cane Bay High School on Wednesday night.
John Shelton will get the start on the mound for Post 166 (11-6).
“We need our fans to come out and really get behind us,” Horton said.
Post 166 broke open Game 2 with five runs in the top of the seventh inning.
“Offensively, we had really good approaches,” Horton said. “We worked the counts, got bunts down, executed a couple hit-and-runs and just really played a good all-around game.”
The winner of the Charleston-Horry series will tangle with Sumter Post 15 or Aiken Post 26 in the next round.
That series is also 1-1 after Aiken defeated Sumter 4-2 on Tuesday.
