Dixie all-star baseball and softball season reached its opening day on Saturday. On the line in the next few weeks are district, state and world series titles.

The Dixie Youth District 7 machine pitch AA tournament (8U) began at Wescott Park and is set to wind down on Thursday, June 20. The six teams vying for that district crown are Northwood, Hanahan, Wescott National, Ladson, Wescott American and Parks Field.

The winner moves on to the state tournament July 5-9 at Delmae in Florence.

The Dixie Youth Majors District 7 tournament (12U) also got fired up on Saturday at Wescott and is scheduled to end on Wednesday, June 19. Hanahan, Wescott, Ladson and Parks Field are in the running for that title.

The winner advances to the state tournament July 5-10 in Dillon.

A pair of Dixie Youth AAA sub-districts (10U) were slated to begin on Monday (after press time) at Hanahan and Ladson.

Teams at the Hanahan sub-district are Hanahan, St. Andrews, Mt. Pleasant, Goose Creek and Wescott while Ladson is hosting Ladson, Parks Field, Moncks Corner and Northwood. The Hanahan sub-district is scheduled to wind down on Friday, June 21. The Ladson sub-district runs through Thursday, June 20.

The two sub-district winners will tangle in a best-of-3 series for the District 7 title June 25-27 at Hanahan, with the winner earning a spot in the state tournament July 12-18 in Anderson.

On Monday, June 24, the District 7 “O” Zone tournament (12U) starts at Goose Creek’s Felkel Field and is set to wind down on June 27. Teams competing are St. Andrews, Mount Pleasant, Moncks Corner and Goose Creek. The winner advances to the “O” Zone state tournament July 12-18 in Bluffton.

“O” Zone is similar to Dixie Majors but base paths are 10 feet longer and the mound four feet further back.

Leagues in District 7 Dixie Youth are Bonneau, St. Andrews, Goose Creek, Hanahan, Ladson, Moncks Corner, Mount Pleasant, North Charleston, Parks Field and St. Paul.

Also on Monday, June 24, the Dixie Boys (14U) district tournament will begin in Moncks Corner. The tournament winds down on June 28. Moncks Corner, St. Andrews, North Charleston, Summerville and Mt. Pleasant will go after the district’s spot in the state tournament, which begins July 19 in Bluffton.

As the lone team in the district, the Moncks Corner Dixie Junior Boys (13U) automatically advance to the state tournament, which starts July 19 in Bluffton.

As the lone team in the district, Moncks Corner’s AA coach pitch squad (8U) moves on to the state tournament on July 6 in Dillon.

The state’s Dixie Pre-Majors (16U) and Dixie Majors (18U) will decide their state champion July 13-16 at North Charleston.

States that play Dixie Baseball are Alabama, Arkansas, South Carolina, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia. State winners advance to their respective Dixie World Series.


In Dixie Darlings (8U), Hanahan and Bluffton play a three-game series for the district title June 21-22 at Hanahan.

The Dixie Angels (10U) contest their district at Felkel Field in Goose Creek from June 24-28. Hanahan, North Charleston and Goose Creek are the three squads vying for that crown.

The Dixie Ponytails (12U) will go after the district title June 21-24 in Walterboro.

All three of those state tournaments are slated for Moncks Corner, beginning with opening ceremonies on July 12, along with the Dixie Debs (19U). As the host team, Moncks Corner will go straight to those four state tournaments.

As the lone team in the district, Moncks Corner’s Dixie Belles (15U) advance to the state tournament in Union from July 13-17.
