Petty Officer 3rd Class Morgan Kirkland

Petty Officer 3rd Class Morgan Kirkland, a native of Goose Creek, serves the U.S. Navy and is assigned to Fleet Logistics Multi-Mission Squadron (VRM) 30.

Kirkland graduated from Stratford High School in 2022.

The skills and values needed to succeed in the Navy are similar to those in Goose Creek.

“My hometown is full of veterans and active duty personnel,” Kirkland said. “I was always around someone who served and told me all the benefits the Navy had to offer.”

Kirkland joined the Navy one year ago. Today, he serves as an information systems technician.

“I joined the Navy for a better life and to develop skills I knew I could use for the rest of it,” Kirkland said. “I wanted more than my hometown had to offer me.”

Members of VRM 30 fly and maintain the CMV-22B Osprey, a vertical takeoff and landing tilt-rotor aircraft. Compared to the C-2A Greyhound, VRM aircraft have increased operational range, faster cargo loading and unloading, improved survivability and enhanced communications.

With 90% of global commerce traveling by sea and access to the internet relying on the security of undersea fiber optic cables, Navy officials continue to emphasize the prosperity of the United States is directly linked to recruiting and retaining talented people from across America.

“We will earn and reinforce the trust and confidence of the American people every day,” said Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Lisa Franchetti. “Together, we will deliver the Navy the nation needs.”

Kirkland has many opportunities to achieve accomplishments during military service.

“I am most proud to say that in my first year, I was able to put my head down, graduate from technical school and arrive at my first command making a good first impression,” Kirkland said.

Kirkland serves a Navy that operates far forward, around the world and around the clock, promoting the nation’s prosperity and security.

“Serving in the Navy means working as a team for the betterment of each sailor and the overall country,” he said. “We protect the nation and the seas of the world. We go places others can’t and do what they can’t.”

Kirkland is grateful to others for helping make a Navy career possible.

“I would like to thank my brother, Raven, for being my biggest supporter and being a role model throughout my career,” Kirkland said. “If you are an individual who is looking to better your life in terms of job opportunity or education, the Navy provides you with a solid base and starting point to set you up for success later in life.”
