On Wednesday, March 29, 2023, at 2:06 pm, Goose Creek Police Department was notified by Berkeley County 911 that there was a man with a gun at Westview Elementary School. The school was placed on lockdown. Officers responded to the location and conducted a search. There were no signs of a man with a gun. It was determined that the phone call was a prank.
Upon further investigation, the juvenile that made the call never said anything about a school. The juvenile on the 911 recording said a man has a gun at a park and then said a boy has a gun. Investigators were able to track the phone number and identify the juvenile who made the call. The juvenile is an 8-year-old male. Investigators spoke with the juvenile and his parents concerning the incident. The juvenile stated that he made the call because of a dare.
The Goose Creek Police Department takes incidents like this very seriously and the investigation is ongoing.
