Cane Bay High School Air Force JROTC earns 2017-2018 Distinguished Unit Award

Cane Bay High School Air Force JROTC has received the 2017-2018 Air Force Junior ROTC Distinguished Unit Award.

This award recognizes AFJROTC units that have performed above normal expectations, and that have distinguished themselves through outstanding service to their school and community while meeting the Air Force Junior ROTC mission of producing better citizens for America.

The unit’s impact has been illustrated through its sponsorship and participation in many school activities, six curriculum in action field studies, seven competitions and 44 community service events, accumulating 2,275 hours of service.

Twenty-one cadets attended the Cadet Leadership Course June 11-16 at the Citadel.

Cadet Captain Ja’Quivous Goodwin performed duty as one of the operations squadron commanders, responsible for the training and discipline of five flights of 25 cadets.

Cadet Matthew Daigler earned “top drill” honors for having the best graded drill routine of more than 350 cadets. “C” Flight garnered the “Honor Flight” award for the weeklong course under the leadership of Cadet Tayler Brown.

The camp is designed to teach responsibility, improve self-discipline, build self-confidence, develop leadership skills, and strengthen character. The mental and physical challenges help prepare cadets for future leadership roles.

Additionally, Master Sergeant Paul Brown was selected as an “Outstanding Instructor” for the 2017-2018 school year. Deemed one of the “Best of the Best” by Headquarters Air Force JROTC.

The objectives of the program are to educate and train high school cadets in citizenship and life skills; promote community service; instill responsibility, character, and self-discipline through character education, and to provide instruction in air and space fundamentals.
