Campers at Beidler Forest searched the boardwalk with mason jars in their hands looking everywhere from under handrails, up in branches and inside of tree stumps.
The campers were searching for spiders as part of the annual Swamp Camp held at Francis Beidler Forest Audubon Center & Sanctuary.
After the campers captured their spiders they took them back to the center and identified them.
The campers kept the spiders they captured for the rest of the camp and fed them and monitored their growth.
The theme of this year’s camp was “Invertebrates Expedition.” In addition to searching for spiders the campers also studied other animals that call the ecosystem at the Audubon Center home. The campers were shown how the center captures, studies, and tracks birds.
This week’s camp was the last one for the summer.
