The BCSD voted on the new principal of Phillip Simmons Elementary School at their final meeting on June 25th.
La Toya King was named the principal of Phillip Simmons Elementary School by a unanimous vote.
King is the third principal in the school’s history. She was previously the assistant principal of Phillip Simmons Elementary since it first opened in 2016. The position of principal was vacated by Dr. Melissa Negreiros who left the school to accept a position teaching at the college level.
King was educated in the Berkeley County School District. She wants to continue the programs that are already establishing a good relationships with the community and the day-to-day operations of the school.
King has a lot of big plans for Phillip Simmons Elementary, she wants the school to become a STEAM School of Distinction.
Superintendent Dr. Eddie Ingram said in a press release that he is excited for King to become principal of Phillip Simmons Elementary. He said that she has a passion for STEAM and he cannot wait to see what the school becomes under her leadership.
