Cane Bay sprinter Semaj Tolliver has picked up where she left off last season.
Tolliver, a sophomore, finished first in the 100-meter dash to highlight the performances turned in by Gazette-area track and field athletes in the annual Sandlapper Classic at West Ashley this past weekend.
She also finished second in the 200-meter dash and ran a leg on Cane Bay’s 400-meter relay team that placed fifth.
She was the Class AA champion in the 200 last season and placed second in the 100.
The only other individual athlete to place second in an event was Hanahan jumper Chris Brown, a sophomore. He was runner-up in the triple jump, the same event he qualified for the state meet a year ago.
As far as relays, Stratford’s girls were second in both the 6400-meter relay and distance medley.
Third-place finishers were Cane Bay’s Katharine Summers and Angelique Green, who tied in the high jump. Stratford’s boys were third in the 6400-meter relay.
Stratford hurdler Brandon Gourdine (110 hurdles) and the Knights’ distance medley relay team were fourth in their events.
Cane Bay’s girls were fifth in the 400-meter relay, while Stratford’s girls placed fifth in the 3200-meter relay. Hanahan’s boys were fifth in the 1600-meter relay.
Stratford’s Jasmine Mack (shot put), Gourdine (400 hurdles) and Hanahan’s 3200-meter relay team were sixth-place finishers.
Hanahan had three seventh-place finishers: Jamal Lockwood (110 hurdles), Hanahan’s James King (shot put) and Kiana Bethel (high jump).
Hanahan had three eighth-place finishers: Irim Aiken (400 meters), Sebastian Short (110 hurdles) and Paul Smith (triple jump). Stratford’s Antonio Gadsden was eighth in the 400 hurdles.
