Hanahan girls basketball coach Steve Childers said his team is sticking to what it believes in and the scoreboard is reflecting that.
The Lady Hawks were 13-4 overall and 7-1 in league play heading into Tuesday’s game versus Region 6-AA frontrunner Bishop England.
“What I liked about our (53-35 win over Academic Magnet on Friday) was our consistency scoring,” Childers said. “This tells me the team is sticking to what we believe in and it’s evidenced in the way there are more people scoring more points.”
Against the Lady Raptors, Jordan Bates came off the bench to put up 11 points, hitting three 3-point shots, and Julie O'Grady led the way with 18 points. Leading scorer Ashley Cox had 16 points.
Alexis Harper chipped in nine points.
The Lady Hawks outscored AMHS 28-13 in the second half to pull away.
A night later, the Lady Hawks defeated Porter-Gaud 44-39.
The Bishop England game (played after deadline) was for a share of first place in the region. Friday’s game at home against North Charleston will be senior night for Cox and O’Grady.
Hanahan defeated North Charleston 59-38 on Jan. 10.
“North Charleston was a team we handled pretty well at their place,” Childers said. “It was the coming out party for many of the previous role players. We felt we could score on them and we won by 21 points. More importantly, it’s senior night. This will mark the final regular season home game for both Ashley Cox and Julie O'Grady and I am going to miss those two.”
After NCHS, the Lady Hawks play at Stall (Feb. 7) and Woodland (Feb. 9) to conclude the regular season.
