Stratford High School’s wrestling team ended the regular season with a second-place finish in the Stratford Invitational on Saturday.
The Knights finished behind winner Bamberg-Ehrhardt. The Red Raiders had five weight class winners and placed four other wrestlers inside the top four of their classes to edge the Knights by less than six points, 176-170.50.
Beaufort, Cane Bay and Battery Creek were third through fifth in the tournament.
The winners for Stratford were Billy Ackerman (108) and Austin Koile (162). Nick Young (122), Brandon Young (197) and Isaac Greer (222) were runner-ups for the Knights.
Cane Bay’s top wrestlers were Dylan Pope (162) and Matt Rudy (184), who placed second in their weight classes.
The postseason begins this week for area wrestling teams.
The Class AAA playoffs begin Wednesday, while the Class AAAA state tournament begins Saturday.
Class AA will decide its two championship match representatives with one-day tournaments on Saturday, one in the Upper State and the other at Hanahan High School.
