Some of the best players from across the United States, South Africa, Canada and Mexico were in Bolingbrook, Illinois recently competing for the World Team Challenge tournament championship.

The match play event, hosted by the Illinois Junior Golf Association was won by the United States East Coast team comprised of 18 of the best players on the East Coast. The team was coached by Lou Solarte of Chicago.

Katelyn Dambaugh, an eighth grader at Northwood Academy, playing out of the Crowfield Golf and Country Club, was the only South Carolina player invited to represent the USA East Coast team.  Katelyn, playing in the 12-13 year old age division teamed with Nicole Scola of Rhode Island.

On day one, Katelyn’s team defeated the Mexican team in 4-Ball. The American team played the competitive USA Midwest team.  After a slow start, USA East Coast defeated the Midwest in Alternate Shot.

Day three saw the American team match up against the juniors from South Africa.  The South African team proved to be no match for the Americans. USA East Coast defeated South Africa 17:1/2.

In the championship round, Katelyn and her partner faced and defeated Rynae Baca of Alaska and Jessie Theilemay of Northern California.
