James Thomas Lupton Sr. of Goose Creek, husband of the late Mary Ida Dantzler Lupton, died Saturday, June 27, 2009. He was 87.
Born July 7, 1921 in Beaufort, North Carolina, he was the son of the late William A. Lupton and Polly Mason Lupton.
James served his country as a Merchant Seaman during WWII. He worked at the Charleston Naval Shipyard and was a self-employed welder when he retired.
He attended Calvary Church of the Nazarene of Goose Creek.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Lois Bennett.
He is survived by his two sons, James T. Lupton Jr., and his wife Brenda of Goose Creek, and Charles “Skip” Lupton and his wife Rose Mary of West Ashley; a brother, George Lupton of North Charleston; three sisters, Libby Evans and Daisy Jones, both of Ritter, SC, and Dora Gerard of Morehead City, NC; 13 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 1 in the chapel of the funeral home. Interment followed at Bethany Cemetery in Charleston.
