Mr. Thornley was born Dec. 25, 1938 in Bonneau, the son of Perry W. Thornley and Bernice Brinson Thornley. At the age of 18, he began his career at Albany International that would span 47 years, emerging through the ranks that began on the shop floor and rising to Vice President of Manufacturing and retiring as Director of Global Manufacturing. He has been an active supporter of Trident Technical College and his wife in her presidential duties. He was a member of the Trident Technical College Foundation Board, Harbor View Presbyterian Church, an outdoorsman and avid golfer.
He is survived by his wife of Charleston; two sons, Kenneth Wayne Thornley (Irene) of Columbia, and Robert Henry Thornley (Melissa) of Bonneau; a daughter, Claudette Elizabeth Thomas (Derrick) of Moncks Corner; a stepdaughter, Nicole Wilson Rubin (Amir) of Santa Monica, CA; a stepson, Damon MacAllister Wilson of Washington, DC; four sisters, Madeline Thornley Powers (Herman) of Macedonia, Roberta Lucille Thornley of Ogdensburg, NY, Dannie Maxine Thornley of Russellville, and Lou Thornley DeArmond (Jimmy) of New Palestine, IN; nine grandchildren, Mason Alexander Thornley, Sonja AnnMarie Thornley, Robert Adam Thornley, Jacob Henry Thornley, Gracen Elizabeth Lusk, Grant Robinson Lusk, Kelsey Madison Thomas, Naomi Carolina Rubin and Benjamin Drake Rubin; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Thornley was predeceased by his first wife, Sonja Morgan.
