One man is dead and another in the hospital after a single vehicle accident early Sunday morning.
According to L/Cpl Paul Brouthers of the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the accident occurred at about 1a.m. Sunday when a Honda Civic driven by William L. McKenzie, 39, of Huger failed to negotiate a sharp curve on the northbound lane of SC 45 between Jamestown and McClellanville, left the roadway, and struck several trees.
The SCHP arrived on the scene about 3 a.m. and found a passenger, Emery Michael Baxter, 21, of Moncks Corner in the vehicle; he was wearing a seatbelt. Baxter was pronounced dead at the scene. Officers found McKenzie in a nearby yard and he was subsequently flown by helicopter to the Medical University of South Carolina.
The accident is still under investigation, Brouthers said.
