Charleston man charged in fatal accident

Goose Creek Police have charged James Connelly, a 56-year-old white male from Charleston, with Felony DUI in conjunction with a traffic collision that killed two people.  

The collision occurred on Thursday, April 23 at approximately 8:30 p.m. at the intersection of Hwy. 52 and Old Mt. Holly Road.  

Twenty-year-old Benjamin Cook of Vance, S.C., died at 1:04 a.m. Friday morning, Berkeley County Chief Deputy Coroner Bill Salisbury said.

Cook was driving a Dodge Neon that was struck at the intersection of Highway 52 and Old Mt. Holly Road in Goose Creek by a Dodge truck driven by Connelly, according to the coroner’s office.

The accident happened at 8:35 p.m. Thursday.

Cook was transported to MUSC by helicopter where he was pronounced dead.

Brandy Roseberry, 17, of Elloree, a passenger in the car, was pronounced dead at the scene, Salisbury said.

My family's prayers go out to the family's of the victims of this mans ignorant decision to drive while under the influence.
