Dear Editor:
Please allow me to publicly present my appreciation of recent History Lectures presented in our fair city.
Thank you, Dr. Michael Heitzler (our Mayor of Goose Creek), for studying, researching and then publishing the immense amount of history of St. James Parish plus surrounding areas from the 1660's to current times for our enjoyment plus edification.
And then to vocally teach – plus give visualization of more land, water, homes, people, their leaders, the forested areas than any of us realized existed. The information was hidden in many private diaries, business logs, archives, government records, etc. He has been ever searching and re-searching our local history
And yes, it was a pleasure to learn, even though some eras were difficult for our minds/emotions to muddle through. Part of our history includes sadness and grief. It seems to be an international history on various levels.
There was never a boring "I have lost interest" moment. I am now so acquainted to many former "unknowns" through the generosity of Dr. Heitzler's use of his personal power point program ... accumulation of massive information to teach us.
Also, thanks to the Goose Creek City Council who supported and arranged for the time and use of City Hall for the recent eight-week History Lectures on Thursday nights. Could there be a more appropriate place for this information to be presented free of charge to the public?
I do thank Mayor Mike and City Council for their win-win partnership in this undertaking and can hardly wait for the next series to begin. It is such a gift to our citizens.
Geny Morrison
