HPD officers honored

The Hanahan Police Department honored three of its officers during a recent meeting of City Council.

Officer Charles Carnes, Lt. John Blackmon, Officer Lane Hollenebeck, and Officer Jimmy Mathis were honored.

Carnes, whose efforts in DUI enforcement was a major factor in the HPD being named DUI Enforcement Agency of the Year in 2008, was recently named a DUI Hero; he made 31 DUI arrests in 2008.

Blackmon, recognized for many roles he takes in the department, has not only been a successful grant writer for the department but also created and developed the department’s latest community relations program, the successful Citizens Police Academy.

Mathis was also honored for his efforts in DUI enforcement; he was recently named DUI Enforcement Officer of the Year, having made 44 DUI arrests in 2008.

Hollenbeck was recognized as Employee of the Quarter for her excellent work attitude and willingness to do whatever is necessary to complete the mission.
