Hanahan guard Kayla Dyson scores on a layup in a game earlier this season.
The priority for Hanahan’s girls basketball team heading into the last week of the regular season is simple – keep up the good work.

The Lady Hawks improved to 14-5 overall and improved to 8-2 against Region 6-AA competition, locking down second place with a 45-39 victory over North Charleston on Friday night.

“You don’t want to go limping into the playoffs, especially when you’re going to be at home,” Hanahan girls basketball coach Steve Childers said. “… I feel like we can go three or four rounds.”

Down the stretch, several players have led the Lady Hawks in scoring at different times. Against North Charleston, Jasmine Randolph had missed three games due to a concussion but came off the bench to score a team-high 12 points. Leading scorer Ashley Cox added 10, while Kayla Dyson and Jordan Bates scored eight points apiece.

“At this time, if you’ve got different people doing the leading scoring, it makes you more dangerous at playoff time,” Childers said.

The Lady Hawks are set to play at Stall on Tuesday and Woodland on Thursday before beginning the playoffs on Feb. 14.
