The weekend of Feb. 20 saw members of the Stratford Beta Club compete at the S.C. State Beta Convention in Columbia.
Stratford Betas competed in 10 categories: Special Talent, English, Math, Science, Social Studies, Creative Writing, Pencil Drawing (on-site art), Scrapbook, Quiz Bowl, and Campaign Skit.
The club also supported one of its members, Ryan Cook, in her bid for the office of State Beta Secretary.
SHS competitors/delegates included Lea Bowlby, Nick Bryant, Ryan Cook, Eddie Creighton, Amber Dunn, Dylan Ernst, Chrissy Fidelus, Megan Granger, Amelia Hayward, Katharine LeeHong, Paige Lux, Kelly MacDonald, Ashley Reddy, Caroline Taylor, Kelly Ting and Kristina Van.
SHS results:
• In Special Talent, Kelly MacDonald successfully placed in the top eight in the preliminaries and went on to compete in the finals.
• In English, Caroline Taylor placed second in the state.
• In Social Studies, Amelia Hayward placed second in the state.
• In Pencil Drawing, Katherine LeeHong placed second in the state.
• In Scrapbook (a group effort spearheaded by Chrissy Fidelus, our historian), the club placed first in state.
• In Quiz Bowl, the SHS team, consisting of Eddie Creighton, Dylan Ernst, Amelia Hayward and Caroline Taylor, placed first in state.
