"Araceli is one of our hardest working students," said her teacher, Michael Eason. "She has taken three computer electives this year and she won our Flash Animation competition in the fall term. I am not surprised she was selected for the camp."
Bryan has completed the following computer classes while at GCHS: Integrated Business Applications I, Web Page I, and Java Programming I. He is currently taking Web Page II and Java Programming II.
Upon completion of his current classes, Bryan will have earned completer status in the programming and software development area.
Randy Pugh, his teacher, said: “Bryan was very excited when he heard about this unique opportunity and wasted no time in gathering all of his paperwork (application, transcripts, and teacher recommendations) and submitting his application package. Bryan applied for this program because he thought it would be an excellent opportunity to expand his knowledge of technology/computer science … and was in dire need of a new computer.”
The camp is offered by the College of Charleston Computer Science Department and the Consortium for Enterprise Systems Management, with support from the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at The Citadel. Twenty Lowcountry high school sophomores and juniors will learn about information technology concepts, computer development, and software development.
They will explore computer science career opportunities and each student will get to build and keep a laptop computer.
For more information concerning these career and technical education classes, contact Berkeley County School District Work Based Learning Coordinator Gwen Scarborough at 899-8646.
