American Red Cross volunteers responded to 16 home fires over the Labor Day weekend to assist 80 people in the Palmetto SC Region.
Assistance being provided to these victims include such things as funding for temporary lodging, food and clothing, as well as comfort kits with personal hygiene items and referrals to partnering agencies for their long-term recovery.
On average, the Palmetto SC Region responds to a disaster every 6.5 hours. With the support of volunteers and donors, the Palmetto SC Region has helped more than 1,700 individuals affected by disasters since Jan. 1.
It costs the Red Cross an average of $1,275 to assist a family of four devastated by home fire. To help people who have been affected by home fires and other disasters, call or go online to one the Palmetto SC region’s seven Red Cross Chapters that span 35 counties of South Carolina.
Disaster can strike at anytime. Everyone is encouraged to download the Red Cross’ free mobile apps for First Aid, Flooding, Tornados, Shelters, Hurricanes, Swim Safety and more.
