Gators stymied in season opener

  • Monday, September 1, 2014

Goose Creek’s football season got off to a sluggish start on Saturday.

The Gators lost 14-7 to Pickerington Central (OH) in the inaugural Backyard Blitz matchup in Centerville, Ohio.

Pickerington Central had a pair of goal-line stands in the final two quarters to hand the Gators a rare loss. Goose Creek has now lost two straight since winning 38 in a row.

The Gators’ lone touchdown came on a 40-yard touchdown pass from Dominique Jefferson to Quintavis Davis in the second quarter.

Twice in the second half, Goose Creek drove inside Pickerington Central’s 3-yard line only to come up empty.

The point production was the lowest for a Goose Creek team since Fort Dorchester blanked the Gators 18-0 in September of 2009.

The last time Goose Creek’s program lost two in a row was in 2008 when the Gators dropped the season’s first two games to Northwestern and Summerville.

The Gators travel to Ridge View on Friday before hosting Summerville on Sept. 12.

Ridge View is coming off a 20-5 loss to Blythewood.
