Heather Walsh’s third grade class at Marrington Elementary School spent the first week of school reading the book “The Keeping Quilt” by Patricia Polacco.

The story speaks about how a family who came from Russia moved to New York and wanted to keep their heritage and memories alive by creating a quilt out of important clothes and mementos from family over the years. The quilt has passed on for generations.

Third graders created a quilt block on which they drew all of the things that are important to them now. A real quilt was put together to create a Keeping Quilt for the year.
