GCPD plans citizen academy

  • Friday, August 29, 2014

The Goose Creek Police Department is planning to hold another Citizen Police Academy in September. It is free to any Goose Creek resident 21 or older.

A release from Crime Prevention Specialist Kevin Scott explained that the classes are designed to give people a behind-the-scenes look at the police department. The class is not designed to teach citizens how to be police officers, but rather to gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of the field of law enforcement.

The course consists of eight evening sessions once a week, with classroom learning and some limited physical activities for anyone who wishes to participate. Dates are still to be determined.

Anyone interested should call Scott at 863-5200, extension 2317. Classes are limited to the first 25 participants, and a background check will be conducted on all applicants.
