  • Wednesday, August 27, 2014

A processional is planned Thursday, Aug. 28, for Goose Creek firefighter Steve Skipton Sr., who died Saturday at 41 after battling lung cancer.

The processional will begin following a 1 p.m. memorial service for Skipton at Northwoods Assembly church at 2600 N. Main Street in Summerville. It will include the Goose Creek Fire Department, emergency management and personal vehicles.

The processional will travel south toward Interstate 26 and make a left on College Park Road, proceed to Crowfield Boulevard, where it will turn left and travel to St. James Boulevard. Fire department and family member vehicles will proceed to McAlister Funeral Home for Skiptonís funeral. All other vehicles are requested to turn right onto St. James.

A reception will be held at the Goose Creek Fire Department Station 1 at 101 Button Hall Ave. immediately following the funeral.

Skipton, who was diagnosed in late May, was remembered by friends and colleagues as a man active in community volunteer work and as co-owner of the website SConFire.com. He also spent several weeks at Ground Zero following the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks in New York.

He is survived by his wife and four children.
