A 20-year-old female inmate is back in custody after running from a deputy at Trident Medical Center early Wednesday, Aug. 27.
Chelsea Renee Sones had been transported to the hospital complaining of pain in her abdomen and had been treated at the ER and released.
As she was being escorted to a patrol car at 12:39 a.m. to be taken back to the detention center, she bolted from the scene and managed to elude the deputy.
Officers from several jurisdictions, including North Charleston, Charleston and the South Carolina Highway Patrol, assisted in setting up a perimeter around the wooded area near the I-26/U.S. 78 overpass and used K-9’s to track her movement.
Sones was captured approximately 1½ hours later and transported back to the Hill-Finklea Detention Center in Moncks Corner, where she was being held on shoplifting and resisting arrest charges.
A charge of escape has now been lodged against her.
