Deputy involved in accident leaves BCSO

  • Monday, August 18, 2014

The Berkeley County Sheriff’s deputy involved in an automobile accident last week has resigned after it was found that he was driving with a suspended license at the time of the accident.

BCSO spokesman Dan Moon confirmed Monday that Deputy Justice Jenkins, 34, of Moncks Corner, has left the BCSO after failing to notify his supervisor of his suspension.

Jenkins was cited Monday, a week after a Redbank Road wreck, by the S.C. Highway Patrol for driving under suspension, according to Berkeley County records.

Jenkins was treated and released Tuesday from an area hospital. The five people in the other vehicle were also hospitalized, but there are no records of their conditions.

Chief Deputy Rick Ollic of the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office said Jenkins’ last day was Friday, Aug. 15, after the sheriff’s office was notified that his driving privilege had been suspended Aug. 4.

Ollic added that employees are required to disclose any change in their motor vehicle driving records.

Jenkins never told the BCSO that his license had been suspended, Moon confirmed. The department does drivers license audits twice each year; the most recent one was completed in June.

No details were immediately available about why Jenkins’ license was suspended.
