Berkeley County school board gave the nod to the first of two readings for the establishment an online educational program.
The Aug. 12 reading was approved 7-0 with board Chair Kent Murray and boardmember Shannon Lee absent for the meeting. The program is through the S.C. Virtual School Program.
The program will be available to students in 9th through 12th grade for earning units of academic credit. The distance, online learning courses are for students at schools that don’t offer the course, students unable to make the offered course due to unavoidable scheduling conflict, students who are medically homebound, students who have been suspended, and students who need the course for credit recovery or graduation.
Like regular courses, students will have to complete prerequisites. Students will also have to obtain approval from the principal, adhere to District policy for behavioral codes, and adhere to attendance requirements.
