The Goose Creek City Council met Thursday at a workshop to attend to business ahead of the upcoming regular council meeting.

Two candidates for municipal court judge were interviewed. Charleston-area lawyers Danny Wilson and Peter Shahid answered questions from council members about their backgrounds and qualifications to fill the position being vacated by Dale Van Slambrook, who was recently named a Master in Equity judge for Berkeley County.

The council’s choice will be announced at the monthly meeting Aug. 12, and the new judge will be seated Sept. 1.

The council discussed other issues, including a clarification that the planned “comfort stations” at Crowfield Golf Club will be for anyone playing the course, not just club members. Locks controlled by electronic keypads will secure the doors, and all golfers will be provided the combination code for entry. Codes will be changed daily.

They also got an update from city administrator Dennis Harmon on the renewal of the long-term water service area agreement with Charleston Water Service, which is due to expire soon, and on some of the area roads that will be targeted for improvement should the 1-cent road tax extension get voter approval in November.
