Michelle Soderberg is the 2014 Goose Creek Employee of the year.
The City of Goose Creek honored its top employees during its July 8 city council meeting with each department’s top employee receiving a plaque and cash prize for their hard work and dedication throughout the year.
“This is a very special night for all of us as we get to recognize the department employees of the year and the city employee of the year,” said Mayor Michael Heitzler. “City council has a difficult time ... deciding who is the citywide employee of the year.”
Soderberg was chosen from a list of nine department full and part-time employees of the year.
“Michelle did an outstanding job over the past year,” Heitzler said. “We would not operate as smoothly as we do without Michelle’s efforts and outstanding work.”
In addition to Soderberg, the following outstanding employees and volunteers were recognized:
Golf Department Employee of the Year Todd Biegger
Part Time/Seasonal Golf Department Employee of the Year Tom Heiden
Department of Public Works Employee of the Year Chris Torres
Police Department Officer of the Year Patrolman David Michael “Mike” Mitchum
Police Department Civilian Employee of the Year Kevin Scott
Recreation Department Employee of the Year Tom Wareham
Part Time/Seasonal Recreation Department Employee of the Year Tammy Lyons
Fire Department Employee of the Year Randy McNicoll
Volunteer of the Year was awarded to Senior Chaplain Tom Richmond for his work with the Goose Creek Police Department.
