Berkeley County School District is exploring an alternative to keep Sangaree schools students safe from congestion and traffic issues nearby.
During the June 24 school board meeting, district Superintendent Rodney Thompson said the district wants to shuttle children within a mile of the school to keep children out of the crosswalk, where a crossing guard was struck and injured in 2012.
The idea will likely cost the school district money to operate the buses as shuttles. Final numbers are unknown at this time.
Thompson said the district will also have to get the message out to Sangaree parents so they can take advantage of the option.
