CSU releases volleyball schedule

  • Friday, June 20, 2014

The return of the Charleston Southern Invitational highlights 14 home matches the CSU volleyball team will host inside the Buc Dome in the 2014 season.

During the invitational, the Lady Buccaneers will host Jacksonville, South Carolina State, North Carolina Central and USC Upstate over the two-day weekend, Sept. 12-13.

Also visiting the Buc Dome in the 2014 season are local rival College of Charleston and Big South foes Presbyterian, Winthrop, Coastal Carolina, Liberty, Radford, High Point and Campbell.

"We are excited to get to host a home tournament this year, allowing for families and fans to join us in the excitement," CSU coach Christy Mooberry said. "Our preseason tournaments allow for some solid competition from the start and the James Madison and Cincinnati road trips will also be great for team bonding early in the season before we head into the Big South season."

CSU returns seven players, including 2013 Big South All-Academic selection Meredith Parrott and libero Ashley Higginbothem.

"The incoming freshmen will give us more depth in every position and will elevate the competition level in the gym," Mooberry said.

The Lady Bucs open the season on the road over the first two weekends, playing in the James Madison Classic (Aug. 29-30) in Harrisonburg, Va., and The Citadel Invitational (Sept. 5-6). CSU will take on Villanova, James Madison and Norfolk State at the JMU Classic, while playing Stetson, N.C. A&T and The Citadel at The Citadel Invite.

The first home match of the season is against CofC on Sept. 9.
