Goose Creek City Council approves zoning change

Photo Provided Mayor Michael Heitzler recognized Susan Selvey as the 2014 City Purchase Award Winner at last week’s city council meeting. Each year, the City purchases one piece of art from the Goose Creek Artist Guild’s annual show.  The art is displayed at Goose Creek City Hall so that it can be enjoyed by Goose Creek citizens for years to come. Susan Selvey’s watercolor painting is entitled “Window Flowerbox.”

The first reading of the rezoning of portions of a property on St. James Avenue that includes the building that housed Butchie’s By Design was passed at last week’s Goose Creek City Council meeting.

Council met in regular session on June 10 at the municipal center.

The property is currently zoned as R1, or Low Density Residential. The parcel in question would be changed from R1 to GC, or General Commercial.

The second and final reading of the rezoning was set to take place Tuesday night at a special city council meeting.

In other business, the Goose Creek Police Department was approved to spend money from its budget on updating the GCPD facility, including cubicles and office furniture. The amount approved by city council was $34,556.

Council’s next regular meeting is set for July 10.
