Goose Creek Post 166 extended its win streak to three games with a 13-3 victory over the Lowcountry Heat on Tuesday at GCHS.

Since a season-opening, 6-2 loss to Beaufort, Post 166 has scored 36 runs.

"Our hitting has come along," Post 166 coach Aaron Preston said. "I think we've got 30 to 35 hits the last three games… I think it's just the kids getting comfortable again. You've got that month or month and a half off after the high school season ends and it takes some getting used to seeing some live pitching."

Catcher Jordan Lacavera had three hits against the Heat and drove in four runs. One of his hits was an RBI triple that highlighted a four-run third inning and gave Post 166 a 5-0 lead.

Tyler Rio and Zac Gonzales preceded Lacavera with RBI singles.

An inning earlier, Zach Owens got Goose Creek on the board with an RBI groundout.

It was plenty of run support for Rio, who worked six scoreless innings. He was aided by two double plays up the middle and worked through a couple of bases-loaded jams.

"He pitched to contact today," Preston said. "He didn't try to strike everybody out. If you let your defense play behind you it decreases your pitch count and gets everyone involved. It keeps everybody alive. He got ahead of batters and only walked three batters, which isn't too bad for six innings."

In the fourth and fifth innings, Post 166 continued to pull away. Gonzales walked with the bases loaded to force in a run and Lacavera plated a pair with a two-run single to make it 8-0 in the fourth.

In the fifth, Christian Sillanpaa, Rio and Gonzales all walked with the bases loaded, followed by Lacavera's RBI single and Asher Smith's sacrifice fly to right field.

Goose Creek hosts Beaufort on June 17 in its next game before traveling to Bluffton on June 19.
