Goose Creek Post 166 won its second straight barnburner on Monday, rallying for five runs in the top of the ninth inning to pull out a 13-12 win in League 1 play at Beaufort.
Post 166 improved to 2-1 heading into Tuesday’s night scheduled home matchup with the Lowcountry Heat from Hilton head/Bluffton.
Christian Sillanpaa and Zach Owens had three hits each. Sillanpaa had two doubles and Owens had a triple among his hits.
Owens was also the winning pitcher in relief. Tyler Rio pitched the bottom of the ninth to earn the save.
Owens tossed six innings and allowed four runs while striking out three batters.
In the win over the Lowcounty Heat a week earlier, Zach Gonzales had a grand slam to help lead the way. Post 166 also scored the go-ahead run in the ninth inning in that game.
Owens was also the winning pitcher against the Heat.
