One of Goose Creek’s cornerstones is headed to Limestone.
Senior Omar McRae signed with the Saints this month and will further his football career at the Div. II school located in Gaffney.
“It’s a great opportunity,” he said. “I showed plenty of coaches I can play at the next level.”
He was one of the Gators’ top playmakers on defense and special teams the last two seasons. McRae finished with 16 career interceptions and 152 total tackles.
As a junior, he picked off 11 passes and took two back for touchdowns. This past season, he made five interceptions and returned one for a score against Carolina Forest.
He also had kickoff returns for touchdowns against Ashley Ridge and Wade Hampton.
McRae capped his high school career in the North-South all-star game in December.
McRae’s cousin, Stratford defensive back Sheldon Reid, will also be going to Limestone.
McRae said he plans to major in criminal justice.
“He ranks as one of the best defensive backs and kick returners that we have had,” GCHS coach Chuck Reedy said. “He led the state in interceptions as a junior and set a school record with two kickoff returns for touchdowns as a senior. He is an excellent defender and supports the run very well.”
