Planned Hanahan elementary school on hold

  • Tuesday, May 20, 2014

A planned elementary school near the Tanner, Foster Creek area of Hanahan is on hold after the city has not rezoned the 12 acres set aside for it and the developer has not renewed its land purchase contract with the school district.

The district released a statement May 13 saying the City of Hanahan’s “unwillingness” to rezone the tract, known as the Bowen tract, has indefinitely delayed the scheduled August 2015 opening of the school.

In the statement, the district said it would continue to pursue all other nearby locations “based on the continued overcrowding conditions at Hanahan Elementary School and Goose Creek Primary School.”
