The first word out of David Pratt’s mouth after the Class AAA state championship track and field meet summed it up.
“Wow,” he said.
Pratt’s Hanahan Hawks ran away with the Class AAA crown on Saturday at Spring Valley High School, finishing with 87 points en route to another championship.
“We knew if we performed, we had a good chance to win,” Pratt said. “They were focused all week so we felt good coming in.”
It was Hanahan’s second title under Pratt and Pratt’s seventh overall. He won five at Woodruff.
Daniel was a distant second with 58 points in Class AAA, followed by Lower Richland.
Greg Casselman won the 400-meter hurdles for the Hawks and the 1,600-meter relay team capped the meet in style by crossing the finish line first.
The Hawks also had four runner-up finishes and three third-places in the state meet.
It was also a huge day for Goose Creek High School sprinter Deondre Daniels.
Daniels won the 400-meter dash for the Gators.
