Millions of people already know the many benefits of Direct Deposit.
Berkeley County Clerk of Court Mary P. Brown thinks you should, too.
According to Brown, Direct Deposit of child support payments is as safe as traditional deposit methods. If you’re hesitant to sign up for direct deposit, you should consider the following facts:
According to Brown, Direct Deposit is …
Free – There is no charge for this service.
Money-Saving – A study has shown the total direct and indirect costs of depositing a check yourself, instead of using Direct Deposit, are $5.88. If you receive a check every other week, it would end up costing you more than $150 a year to deposit your own money.
Quick – With Direct Deposit, your money is electronically transferred into your account.
Secure – There’s no need to worry about lost, stolen, or misplaced checks. Direct Deposit is more confidential than paper payments because fewer people are involved in the process.
Convenient – Direct Deposit eliminates having to make deposits in person. If you are ill or away from home, your support payments will be deposited into your account in your absence.
Reliable – You can be assured your money will be deposited to your account correctly and confidentially.
Simple – It’s easy to get started.
According to Brown, the program is not new to the Clerk’s office. An estimated 34 percent of all payments issued by the Berkeley County Courts are currently being issued by direct deposit.
Brown’s goal is to go paperless with 100 percent participation in the Direct Deposit program on the issuance of child support payments. This would entail submitting child support payments electronically into the custodial parent’s bank account. Going paperless is a win-win situation for everyone according to Brown. It helps the Clerk of Court office operates more efficiently, is convenient for child support recipients; and helps save on our natural resources.
