Christian Sillanpaa's single to right field in the bottom of the ninth inning pushed across the winning run in Goose Creek's 3-2 playoff victory over Beaufort on Thursday night. The second-seeded Gators (13-9) loaded the bases with one out to set the stage for Sillanpaa.

Goose Creek now hosts Ridge View (15-10) on Saturday at 1 p.m. in the District V winner's bracket game. The fourth-seeded Blazers upset top-seeded Lexington 4-2 on Thursday.
Third-seeded Beaufort faces elimination at Lexington (16-8) on Saturday.

"I've been coaching 18 years and that's one of my most enjoyable wins," GCHS coach Chris Pond said. "To come through in a game like that was special. Both teams were fighting back and forth."

Bryce Jonason earned the win in relief of starter Cody Smith. Jonason tossed a scoreless top of the ninth despite loading the bases. Left fielder Kyle Moore's lunging catch inches from the fence for the final out  denied the Eagles. Smith threw 123 pitches and struck out 16 batters, one short of tying the school record, in his eight innings of work.

Mattison Pike took the loss for Beaufort. He walked three batters and allowed Sillanpa's game-winner while getting just one out.
Bradley Brown threw eight innings for the Eagles, scattering seven hits and striking out four batters.

Tyler Rio had three hits to lead the Gators, who had eight hits as a team. Smith added a pair of hits. Singleton had an RBI single in the first and Smith hit a sacrifice fly to right field in the third inning.

Both of Beaufort's runs came in the top of the second inning. Jesse Sanborn doubled in the first run and Smith walked in the other. A diving grab by Singleton in center prevented Beaufort from doing further damage in the second. Leadoff hitter Brady Cormier was the only Eagle with two hits.
