Stefan Rogenmoser/Gazette The Fairfax playground in Goose Creek was burned Sunday.

The Goose Creek Police Department is looking for suspects who may have started a playground fire Sunday in the Fairfax neighborhood.

An estimated $5,000 in plastic playground equipment was burned in an event that appears to be arson, according to a GCPD incident report.

A witness called 911 shortly after 6 p.m. and the Goose Creek Fire Department soon arrived to extinguish the fire.

Police spoke with several witnesses, many of which said they did not see any suspects. One witness, however, said they saw three males who appeared to be about 14 years old. One was riding away on a bicycle and two were running, according to the report.

There are no overhead power lines or other objects that could have accidentally caused combustion, according to the report.

Some wooden chips in the playground had heavy burn marks. There was no immediate evidence found to be the source of the fire.

GCPD encourages anyone with information about this case to contact CrimeStoppers at (843) 554-1111 or the Goose Creek Police Department Crime Tip Line at (843) 863-5210.
