A bomb threat was reported at Google’s Berkeley County facility on Thursday.
The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office, with the assistance of the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office, were on scene at the Google data facility off U.S.-52 most of the day after the bomb threat was reported at 8:39 a.m. Thursday morning.
Deputies methodically searched the large buildings. After each building was cleared, employees are allowed back in. This operation was completed by about 4 p.m. and the company was able to resume normal operations.
“There was nothing to it,” BCSO Spokesman Dan Moon said. “We didn’t locate anything. The search came up clear. We allowed everybody to go back into the building and resume business.
“Somebody found a note in a port-o-let out there. That’s how it got started. They called us. We responded. We requested the assistance of the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office bomb squad. We spent a good bit of the day out there evacuating every building.”
