Marrington Elementary fifth grade students have been studying World War II ... and recently received a visit from an American hero from that era.
As a grand finale for this unit of study, MNE fifth grade teacher Katie Lamb invited historian Carole Poole to share stories about her family members’ experiences during the war. Most electrifying of all was the personal touch of World War II Veteran Floyd Hennessee.
Mr. Hennessee regaled the students with his wartime experiences. Students were in awe of the wisdom and history that their new friend shared. It was an experience they will never forget.
This presentation was especially poignant because the vast majority of the students who attend Marrington are children from Military families. Additionally, this event kicked off Marrrington’s recognition of April as The Month of the Military Child.
